Description Alessi Cohncave centrepiece
The Alessi Cohncave fruit bowl showcases a minimalist and pristine aesthetic in captivating red and violet hues.
In 1992 his centrepiece was created by Susan Cohn for Alessi as part of the "Memory Container" meta-project.
It sets itself apart from other bowls by showcasing a mesmerising light interplay known as the Moiré effect.
The moiré effect is an optical illusion that occurs when two grids do not overlap congruently.
Here, this fascinating play of light is achieved by superimposing two sheets of finely perforated metal, lacquered in different colours and held together at the edges by a stainless steel rim.
Susan Cohn's inspiration for this design came from perforated food containers, and she has brought this styling concept to perfection.
Alessi has, with her help, once again transformed an everyday item into an enigmatic design object that attracts attention through its elegant appearance and its constant dance with light.
