Description
The iconic design of the Juicy Salif is hailed as the most celebrated lemon squeezer across the globe and a defining symbol of the late 1980s design aesthetic. Philippe Starck conceived it at the beginning of his career for Alessi, an eminent Italian kitchen appliance manufacturer, and it catapulted him to the status of an unrivalled product designer. Juicy Salif is still one of Alessi's catalogue's most thought-provoking and audacious designs today. Its practicality as a lemon squeezer might be contested, but its fame is unchallenged. The alien-like appearance of Juicy Salif has prompted many enthusiasts to use it as an enchanting, functional sculpture; over the years, it became a sought-after collector's item. It is included in various design exhibitions, among them the revered Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
The citrus juicer is cast from aluminium and has three spindle-shaped legs with rubber pads on the bottom for stability.
How does it work?
Place the fruit on the squeezer's rounded tip, apply mild pressure and twist. Watch the juice trickle down into your chosen vessel - a glass or bowl. A simple, engaging and style-savvy way to enjoy your citrus beverages.
